The Beginning

In 1988 Rob Haines founded New Zealand Health Food Company. Its incorporation was from a desire to take indigenous New Zealand natural products to the world.

“Established national and international brands asked me to supply them with quality ingredients for their own production. As some of these ingredients grew in popularity, and spurred on by my customers success, I developed our own retail brands; ‘NZHF’ and ‘Kiwi Natural Health’ in the mid 1990’s”.

Export markets were established by this time and continue to grow each year as the worlds demand for natural ingredients increases.

In 2008 the ‘KNH’ and Dr Bee ranges were launched and then in late 2015 'Manuka South®' was launched. These were developed using the best formulation science available, and the most up-to-date knowledge and resources.

Our Retail Store

In 2009 we opened our beautifully designed retail store at our premises on Wooldridge Road in Christchurch. We wanted to create an enjoyable, relaxed and informative environment for people to shop in. Over the years, word has spread and we are well known for our friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable staff who are there to advise on the products that would best suit your needs. You can see more on the brands we stock on the "Our Products" tab.  And if we don't have it instore, just ask!

Something that keeps our customers coming back is our instore loyalty program which you can read more about here.  We also accept SuperGold cards, allowing senior citizens an instant discount.

We are open Monday to Friday 9am until 5.30pm, and 10am until 4pm on Saturday.

Behind the scenes

The retail store is only a part of our operation at Wooldridge Road.  Our Wholesale Sales division, Internet Marketing team, Admin staff, Operations and of course our Production team, are all housed under the one roof.  Production staff work hard to supply products not only to our retail store, but also individual customer orders both for local and export markets.

People are more interested in living wholesome, environmentally conscious lives than ever before. They’re not just eating better and exercising more either. They’re making a conscious effort to become better informed in regards to healthy living practices, wellness supplements, and environmentally conscious living.  As such our product range continues to grow and adapt to meet customer demands.

While originally starting with our New Zealand focused Kiwi Natural Health and New Zealand Health Food ranges.  It soon became clear that there was a real need for a broader range of supplements to cover more individual needs.  The KNH range was developed in 2008 to do exactly that and has since become a trusted household brand to our 1000's of loyal customers.  At the same time we saw the growing popularity of the fantastic benefits of bee products and manuka honey, which was something unique that New Zealand could offer the world.  The Dr Bee range was designed to make those products accessible to the everyday kiwi consumer.

In 2009 we opened our beautifully designed retail store to showcase not only our own products but also to provide the other brands that kiwis know and love.  Making us a one stop shop for all of your natural health requirements.  We are continually evaluating the products we stock, our formulations and our customers needs to make sure we are providing our customers with the best natural health options.

Quality Assurance

New Zealand Health Food Company is committed to providing high quality products, effective product development and outstanding customer service. We do this to help you live better naturally.

We operate a quality management system (QMS) to ensure that we deliver products that are of a consistent high quality. Our QMS is accredited to New Zealand Food Safety Authority standards. This allows our customers the reassurance that our products are produced using the best cGMP guidelines and principles.

New Zealand Health Food Company has had a commitment to producing quality products since 1988. As part of this commitment, a government registered and approved Risk Management Programme (RMP) is in place. This approval assures that all products manufactured under it are produced to certified HACCP guidelines.

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a world standard risk management system and incorporates a systematic approach to managing chemical, physical and biological hazards in the manufacturing process.

New Zealand Health Food Company closely manages product manufacture; from initial development to sale, ensuring that only products that reach its high standard are sold.


Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMF)


New Zealand Health Food Company is an active participant and supporter of the NZ Natural products industry. A "Family Business"

Haines Family

Since its inception, New Zealand Health Food Company has been a “family business”.

Robs mother Joan has played an active part in the business both as mentor and in operations, for many years and retired at the age of 82. Robs daughter Ellie is part of the team as the web and social media administrator and his son Sam, having returned from living and working in Perth, is in sales. Both are learning all the aspects of the company and continuing what we hope is a long family tradition. Recently, Robs daughter Selina has also joined the team out in production, alongside her husband Doug who is the Operations manager.

The involvement of all three generations, as well as the support of Rob’s wife Lynda, has created a warm, supportive and very unique work environment.

It is our unique environment that has ensured staff retention, loyalty and the creation of our own “NZHF family”. Our small but effective team work together to deliver a high level of customer service and supply from the ground floor up. From our factory and logistics team right through to our retail staff, every member of our “NZHF family” works hard to ensure that we give the very best level of service to our customers.
