Health Tips

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an essential vitamin. Because our bodies cannot make it, it is vital that we eat the right amount of fresh fruit and vegetables each day. However, busy modern lifestyles and stresses often make this very difficult. Vitamin C is one of the most important water-soluble antioxidants in our body. Antioxidants are important as they help protect against oxidative stress-related diseases and promote health.

A recent study conducted by the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology found that test subjects taking 1000mg of supplemental vitamin C daily showed an increase in the number of immune cells called natural killer cells. These cells are an important component of the body’s immune response to viruses. It was also found that there was an increase in levels of interferon, another important component of immune response.

  • Garlic

Garlic is one of the world’s best known natural immunity-supporters. It helps to strengthen your immune system against bacteria, viruses and fungal infections. Garlic is also well known for its ability to help your immune system fight off parasites, and your body to clear out toxins. Garlic supports a healthy respiratory system, with clear airways and reduced mucus production.

KNH Odourless Garlic & vitamin C combines the benefits of a high potency garlic extract with vitamin C. Each capsule provides you with the equivalent of 15000mg of fresh garlic. The formula uses garlic in a specially deodorised form, which has become a standard for quality and effectiveness. The odour is controlled without losing the vital benefits.

  • Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is normally produced by the body with exposure of the skin to the sun’s UV rays. However, with most of us working indoors, in the darker winter months we may become deficient in this important nutrient.

Vitamin D has long been known for its role in calcium metabolism, but more recently there is growing body of evidence as to its importance in many other areas of health. A number of studies and empirical observations suggest that optimising your blood vitamin D levels may be a powerful immune enhancer, and that optimal vitamin D levels may also support your body’s resistance to the ‘flu virus. It has been found that optimal vitamin D levels increase the body's natural supply of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). Made from small fragments of amino acids - the building blocks of protein - AMPs appear to have a powerful effect on the immune system's ability to ward off a number of different bacteria and viruses, including the ‘flu. Low blood levels of vitamin D also reduce the ability of AMPs to destroy bacteria and viruses.

  • Power Bee

If you are feeling sluggish or don't quite have your usual get up and go this winter you may want to try Dr Bee Power Bee. Power Bee combines triple strength royal jelly with bee pollen and vitamin C. Taken regularly Power Bee may boost energy levels and help to naturally support your immune system.

Royal Jelly is a rich source of highly concentrated nutrients including B vitamins, complete proteins, lipids and carbohydrates. In the hive it is feed exclusively to the Queen Bee, boosting her growth rate and extending her life span.

Bee pollen has been around for hundreds of years. Ancient Greek Olympians used pollen to improve their performance in the arena. It is easily digested and readily assimilated by the body, providing a fantastic natural energy boost.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and supports the body against the challenges of oxidative stress and chronic illness.

  • Allergen & Sinus formula

Stuffy sinuses, blocked noses....typical discomforts throughout the winter months! Garlic, Horseradish, Bushy perilla, Echinacea, Fenugreek and Vitamin C are all well known ingredients used to support your immunity and help relieve stuffy sinuses to help you breathe easier.

Some antihistamines which reduce the allergic effects of pollen often cause unwanted drowsiness. This is a problem especially if driving a car or operating machinery. Decongestants which help to dry up runny noses sometimes have unpleasant and stimulating side effects, especially in the elderly. They may cause palpitations in some people and make sleep difficult. The herbs and nutrients contained in KNH Allergen and Sinus Formula and the double strength formula, are effective in controlling the symptoms without the problems of “modern” side effects.

Allium sativum (Garlic) is one of the oldest known herbs, has properties to help support the immune defences and keep the airways clear and these properties derive from special highly complex sulphur-containing compounds, which are responsible for its effectiveness. Vitamin C has powerful antioxidant properties and also helps support the body’s immune defences. Long used as a traditional remedy, horseradish acts fast to help relieve stuffy sinuses. Trigonella foenum-graecum (Fenugreek) is a well known for its help in supporting the immune system to regulate inflammation. Echinacea is one of the worlds’ most popular ‘go-to’ herb for cold sufferers. Like horseradish and garlic, it has been used for centuries to help your body fight against the unpleasant symptoms of hay-fever. Perilla frutescens (Wild Basil) has been widely used in Chinese medicine to help runny nose sufferers. The seeds contain many compounds which are thought to support clear airways.

  • Olive Leaf

The Mediterranean diet is well known for a range of health benefits, partly due to the healthy antioxidants derived from the high intake of olive oil, made from olive fruit. For many centuries the fresh leaves of the olive tree have also been used to promote good health.

Antioxidants are believed to play a huge role in protecting our body cells from damage. Comvita’s high strength Olive Leaf Complex is processed from freshly picked leaves ensuring high bioavailability of the active compounds. Along with a number of natural plant nutrients and the main antioxidant, oleuropein, this unique fresh leaf extract contains at least 11 other important phenolic antioxidants.

Comvita Olive Leaf Complex has been tested to demonstrate that it contains around 30 times more antioxidants than the equivalent amount of the best virgin olive oils. When measured using the ORAC scale, a scale that rates antioxidants for their Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, Olive Leaf Complex demonstrates a rating that is 400% higher than vitamin C!

Many people are realising that a high strength Olive Leaf Complex is a supplement with a wide range of benefits suitable for the whole family. While some people use it primarily through winter for its immune supporting function, many more are finding it improves wellbeing all year round.
